1st Linked Production Tutorial

Your chosen brief is achievable and fits your critical investigation very well. The style of media text you are aiming for has distinct conventions which you should be able to recreate. However, television has incredibly high production values which creates a real challenge: the standard demanded for the A2 production is extremely high and you need to ensure the camerawork, soun d, script and pre sentation approach professional standards. Your blog contains some excellent planning – you’ve clearly researched similar reports and these look absolutely right for what you are trying to create. The production schedule is very co mprehensive and outlines each stage of the project impressively. However, you haven’t approached me for interview yet! In terms of the script, I’d make a few suggested changes…  you don’t need the very opening bit and in the middle it becomes very opinionated. This isn’t right for Newsnight – the BBC is famously impartial – so you should leave opi

1) Confirm your  production brief . You write this yourself but it's absolutely crucial this is clear, appropriate and achievable. You should have done this already -  the original blogpost was here  - but it may have changed as a result of your preliminary exercise. Your Critical Investigation topic:  The negative representation of women in Hollywood franchise films such as the Fast and Furious Franchise   Your Linked Production brief:  Create a 3 minute report resembling a newsnight feature   Length/size of production (e.g. 3 minutes, 5 pages etc.):  3 minutes Consisting of 2 interviews with (Mr Halsey) and (Ms Asaria) TBC giving their view as experts in the industry. As well as this, there will be small selection of interviews with young kids and older kids. Then, the reporter’s dialogue will be overlaid with images of Parliament protests so show people to be speaking out about the issue.     Give an example of an existing media text this is similar

Critical Investigation tutorial - second draft

A good second draft – definite improvement but some areas still need a bit of work Written English is much better for two pages but then slips back – look over this carefully.   Introducing quotes is still an area to look at; same for topic sentences. You definitely need to cut the essay down a little – too long. Lacking media/feminist theory. I said this in your original feedback: Butler, McRobbie, van Zoonen, Dyer (power and stereotypes), Gerbner’s cultivation theory (media effects), the Jean Killbourne video this week. Where are they in the essay? Ending needs work – I’d re-write the final paragraph.  Copy and paste this feedback into a new blogpost on your MEST4 coursework blog called 'Critical Investigation tutorial – second draft’. Your immediate priority needs to be the Linked Production: this is worth 32 marks. When you have a Linked Production in draft form, return to this essay with fresh eyes and look to make three or four key improvements be

DRAFT 2 - Critical Investigation

“The media has always been overwhelmingly in the hands of men” [1] Barbara J. Berg, PhD Author: Sexism in America How are women represented in films such as Fast and Furious 7 and what impact might this have on wider society? Over the years, women have faced many challenges when it comes to the issue of equality in the film industry. We struggle when it comes to being treated equally with men; they were and still are seen as the superior ones, which reinforces Berger’s quote that “Men are active and women are passive”. [2] Despite the reports and claims about the developments in equality for women over recent years big Hollywood franchise films still present numerous negative stereotypes of women. This is particularly evident in the Fast and Furious franchise films and the James Bond franchise films where the female actresses are objectified and presented as meaningless sex objects. The way that female characters are presented is simply to please the male eye both in
